Atlas notes

Baltic is quietly walking away from its first dive watch. What is left of the Aquascaphe Classic on the brand’s own site is two gilt colorways, Blue and Black, while the archive page says flatly that the White, Black Cream and SB01 versions were sold only until April 2025. The MK2 is the watch Baltic wants you buying now. This is the one it built its name on.

The case has not changed since 2018: 39mm across, 47mm lug to lug, 13mm thick and 11mm without the boxed crystal. That crystal is double dome sapphire with an interior AR coating, over a unidirectional bezel with a sapphire insert and 120 clicks, a spec sheet most watches twice the price skip. Inside is the Miyota 9039, a commodity Japanese automatic that hacks, hand-winds and holds 42 hours, rated by its own maker at between 10 seconds slow and 30 seconds fast a day. Nothing here has been upgraded because nothing here has been replaced. It is the design the MK2 was built to answer.

That answer is specific, and it costs the Classic real points. The MK2 added crown guards this one does not have, swapped circular case finishing for vertical brushing, and moved from printed sandwich markers to applied 3D lume appliques, changes Monochrome documented in detail when the redesign launched. You are buying the older dial and the exposed crown for roughly $37 less than the MK2 costs new. That is not much of a discount for giving up the newer case.

Buy this one for the gilt dial and the compressor-case proportions, not because it is the smarter purchase. If new-in-box pricing is the deciding factor, the MK2 earns its premium. If you want the shape that made a microbrand’s name before that brand redesigned it, this is the last chance to get it from Baltic directly, and I would not blame you for taking it.
