G-Shock GA-2100
the "CasiOak"
Casio's CasiOak: an 11.8mm carbon-fiber case built for hype, running a plain quartz module while an equally priced sibling gets solar and radio sync instead.

The CasiOak got its nickname by resembling an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak that shrank in the wash, and it got its sales figures by being the watch anyone with a Royal Oak opinion could actually buy. Casio introduced the GA-2100 in 2019 as an octagonal, slimmed-down descendant of the original 1983 DW-5000, and the internet did the rest.
The engineering behind the shape is real. Casio’s own GA-2100 catalog credits a Carbon Core Guard structure, a carbon-fiber-reinforced resin case built specifically to hold the standard G-Shock shock rating at a case just 11.8mm thick, spread across 45.4mm width and 48.5mm lug to lug. Inside sits Casio’s Module 5611, a plain quartz movement accurate to about 15 seconds a month and powered by two SR726W cells good for roughly three years before a battery swap. That is an entirely ordinary quartz spec sheet.
Which is the honest problem with the hype. Casio’s own GW-M5610U, the square that costs about the same money, adds Tough Solar charging and Multi-Band 6 radio sync so it never needs a battery and never needs setting. The GA-2100 gives up both of those for a silhouette. That trade sells watches, and it sells them mostly to people who have never put the two spec sheets side by side.
None of that makes it a bad watch. Two hundred meters of water resistance, a slide-lever band mount that swaps straps without spring-bar tools, and a double LED that actually lights the dial in the dark are real virtues at $100 to $130. But if the goal is buying the smartest G-Shock rather than the best-looking one, the GW-M5610U is sitting right there for less compromise and the same money. I would take the square and spend the difference in charm on a strap for something else.
