Khaki Field Mechanical
the last honest field watch
The purest field watch still in production: 38mm, no date, no rotor, and an H-50 hand-wound movement banking 80 hours on NATO-ready 20mm lugs.
Scored by the published HypeScore formula from the specification and the street price. Never edited by hand, never influenced by affiliation. Read the formula →
Hamilton could have dropped a rotor into this watch and sold more of them. It didn’t, and that single refusal is why the Khaki Field Mechanical still earns a page here. No date either. Just 38mm of case, a hand-wound movement, and dial printing the brand has barely touched since the military contract originals.
The H-50 is the point. It is an ETA-derived hand-wound calibre reworked for a slower beat and a much longer reserve, which in practice means you wind it on Monday morning and it is still going when you pick it up on Thursday. Losing the rotor also buys a thinner case and a caseback that can stay solid, both of which are exactly what a field watch wants.
What holds the score down is arithmetic. At $500 on the street this is standing next to a Citizen carrying four times the water resistance and an ISO rating, and Seiko divers sit at roughly twice the price. The Hamilton wins on character rather than on the sheet.
So buy it for the reason it deserves. Not because a spec comparison told you to, but because you want the last field watch on the market that never pretended to be anything else.
