Atlas notes

Ask an enthusiast what to buy once a Seiko stops feeling like enough and most of them will say the same three words before you finish the question. That consensus is a little boring to write about and hard to argue with, because in 2025 Tudor actually changed the watch rather than just its marketing.

The case dropped from 11.9mm to 11.7mm thick, still 39mm across, still 47.8mm lug to lug, which is the size a dive watch should be for a wrist that also has to wear a shirt cuff over it. Inside is the new MT5400-U, and the number that matters is not the 65 hours of reserve, it is the METAS Master Chronometer certification sitting on top of Tudor’s own COSC rating: accuracy tested to 0 to plus 5 seconds a day worn on the wrist, resistance to 15,000 gauss, water resistance verified 25 percent past the rated 200 meters. That is independently confirmed government-lab testing, not a number Tudor typed into a press release. The bracelet finally gets a proper T-fit clasp with tool-free micro-adjustment, which is exactly the complaint the Atlas keeps raising about Seiko’s clasps at a fifth the price.

None of that makes $5,225 for the steel bracelet an easy number to defend, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. That buys four Seiko SPB143s with change left for a strap. What it buys instead is a manufacture movement independently certified rather than merely stated, a case that wears thinner than its predecessor, and resale strength that the SPB143 will never touch, because Tudor sells scarcity as much as it sells watches. If you want the Swiss diver experience without hunting for it, this is still the one to default to. If you just want a diver, buy the Seiko and bank the difference.

Tudor also sells this reference on a five-link bracelet and a rubber strap, both cheaper or pricier depending on which way you go, and neither changes the case or the movement underneath. The riveted three-link is the one that looks like the watch people actually picture when they say the name.
